Firefighters Contain Hollywood Hills Blaze as Evacuation Order Is Lifted
Firefighters in Los Angeles have successfully contained a fire that threatened some of Hollywood’s most iconic landmarks.
The blaze in the Hollywood Hills, which ignited late on Wednesday evening, marks a promising shift as abating winds and additional resources give authorities hope of gaining control over the fires that have ravaged the US’s second-largest city.
The Los Angeles Fire Department announced that the evacuation order for surrounding neighborhoods will be lifted at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, allowing residents to safely return home.
The fire spread rapidly through Runyon Canyon late on Wednesday, prompting a swift response from helicopters and fire trucks that helped bring the flames under control. Despite the progress, over 100,000 residents remain under evacuation orders across Los Angeles County. Multiple fires have scorched more than 28,000 acres, and at least five fatalities have been reported.
